About This Site
FactSort Lab. measures what AI adds that is not in the original, and what it drops that was in the original, when it organizes an account of a problem. It publishes one research report per measurement, and offers an organizing tool built from the results. The readings explain general matters about organizing records.
Research reports
When AI is asked to produce a statement of facts or a chronology from an account, dates or people not in the original may be added, and circumstances that were in the original may be dropped. The research reports present the results of measuring how often this happens and what kind of content is involved, using fictional accounts. The list of reports is on the research page.
How the organizing tool works
The organizing tool takes an account and produces a statement of facts and a chronology that separate the people, the timeline, and the records. It uses OpenAI's gpt-4.1-mini model. The input is divided into chunks according to its length, and the model is called once per chunk. No other AI model or classification API is used in the tool.
The output is a draft made by AI. Content not in the original may be added, and content in the original may be dropped; checking it against the original is the user's task.
Handling of inputs
| Name replacement | Replaces names of people and organizations, contact details, and street addresses with labels before storage and analysis. Some may be missed. |
|---|---|
| This site's server | Deletes inputs after 72 hours. |
| OpenAI | Keeps inputs sent through the API for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, and does not use them for model training. |

Readings
The readings describe what kinds of records may exist in problems at work, at school, in the family, with housing, and with money, and how to arrange them in date order. They contain general information and do not apply it to individual cases.
The research reports, readings, and organizing tool on this site do not provide legal advice or judgments on how an individual case would be assessed under the law.
